Versenkt 003

On May 19th i will play in Berghain again. I am really excited about this gig, you could imagine why.

Hi Versenkt, Welcome to TheThinBlackLine…

So lets give our readers an insight to the story of Versenkt. You grew up in Madrid, what was the scene like there?

Hi, first i’m really glad to be part on this project with such a great artist.

The scene in Madrid is quiet eclectic but really focus on vocal house music. Also you could find some nice techno places like Cassette, Audium or Specka. About the artist the most important reference are Tadeo or Svreca.

Hence to your recent move to Berlin, how has this worked out for you so far?

That’s it! I just can say that i am really impressed about all what happened since i arrived in this amazing city. In short, a turn of 180 degrees in my life. Since i meet a few friends who showed me the kind of techno i was looking for so long ago and support me 100%, everything is working perfect.

You have been there just over a year now? You have a release with T3R Records done a set at the notorious Berghain and also hold some residencies. Things seem to be moving fast….

Yes, exactly 1 and a half year. As i told you before i can’t even make up my mind about how fast this things are going. Since a really good friend introduced me to Diana Wallow and she offered me to play on her birthday party last May in ://about blank with Dasha Rush and Norman Dodge, everything came really fast.” that “Mad Alba asked me to make a podcast on T_mood, which became the key to all the next steps. In August i received the offer to play in Berghain on a special party the 1st of December with Boris, then Diana (Artèmis) and Jeaninne (Silva Rymd) asked me again to play on Ghosts (://about blank) on the 6th of October with Fanon Flowers and Jolka, with the opportunity to became a resident on the same party, last time was the 1st of March with Delta Funktionen and Marko Fürstenberg. Boris asked me to make a B2B with him in another club on November. Then, after xmas, i played in Leipzig in Pseucho_club. Last February i had my the gig in Manchester with you, an experience that i will never ever forget.
In between i received the offer to make an EP in Noctambular, but i still waiting to release something else until i get more my personal sound and be sure about it.

Sounds like you have snapped up some great opportunities and perhaps still discovering your, so to speak, “identity”. How do describe Versenkt as an artist, where he is heading and more importantly where it came from?

Let’s say that it could not be a better starting in Berlin. I am so thankful about all the people who made this possible and still supporting me. Soon there will be another important gig, but now i can’t say more about it. Versenkt was born as a new project based on deep techno and dark atmospheres. I chose this name when i made a set on this direction and search the translation of sink in german to named it. Then i realised that this name has a strong sound and matched with the ideas i have in mind. Nowadays this project is matching more and more with my personality and i am thinking to change it on my personal name.
Moving on from your “techno” side. Do you have any other inspirations and musical tastes?

Yes, i do. Basically my first inspiration and musical taste is on psychedelic rock, post-rock and post-punk.

We here this psychedelic sound in a lot of your productions, hypnotic grooves and industrial textures, is this something we will expect from this podcast and future sets from Versenkt?

Absolutely! This is the basic idea of this project and also including more organics sounds and structures.
More about you sets and events, have you any especially memorable sets and what do you have coming up in the near future?

For me every single set is special and this is what it makes also memorable. i remember specially the first one in Berlin, Manchester, Leipzig and of course the one in Berghain. But the last one in GHOSTS the 1st of March was completely emotional for me cause i felt so comfortable and warm in this club making the opening. This made that the set flowed in a natural and amazing way.

On May 19th i will play in Berghain again. I am really excited about this gig, you could imagine why.

May, well we look forward to hearing more. Its been a pleasure chatting with you and i hope we speak again soon. Please if you would like to promote any news about versenkt and also any other artists to look out for or watch….

Right now i am in the middle of some projects and keep producing to reach the sound i want, including my collaboration with Roulain. But i will post everything what it will happen on my facebook site and on my soundcloud. There is a huge number of dj’s and producers to look out now. I highly recommend Refracted (which his upcoming release in Silent Season it’s just amazing and magical), Alan Backdrop, Dino Sabatini (my favorite without any doubt), Polar Inertia, Mike Parker, I/Y, etc.. But also there is a lot of artist who are making really good staff and i hope that they will give us good surprises, likea Guillam (loving his productions), Roulain (who is creating a really good staff and hope soon you could enjoy it), CBTØ (The Silent Orchestra [GEO009] EP it’s incredible), a_000, Air Protection Office, Tevor Handa, Modus_uk, Stephanie Sykes and Svarthet.”

We Welcome, Korridor…

TTBL002 with Korridor

Korridor, welcome to TheThinBlackLine.

“Thank you, looking forward.”

So Lets begin, What influenced you to become part of the scene?

“Techno and all the other music genres has been a great part of my life since the millenium. Few years ago I started to notice a great deal of change in the techno scene from what it previosly had been. The sound was different, the mentality was different and the people interested in techno had also changed. This opened the door for me that I had been waiting for all the time, a real experimental music loving crowd. Ive been making music for a long time but sometimes you just wait for that special moment when you know that you can start to be productive about that sound/project that you’ve maybe had in your head for years. I must say also mention that it was aswell a question of getting older. With time comes experience and after a certain time you do more consicous choises and I know Korridor was a result of that. It’s not just music, theres a very clear filosophical vision, for me thats a good reason for being part of the scene/anything.”

So moving on from your influences you must have a drive of passion for electronic music?

“I really like the fact that you can with little stuff do really big, or really small things. Electronic hardware open new doors to sounds that would have never existed within the acoustic world, I like to combine the two thought. I remember hearing techno for the first time as a child, it gave me visions of the future and make me think of science-fiction and that was and still is a big passion.”

Can you describe your journey, Korridor, and how you came across it?

“Basicly the sound of Korridor is a neverending reverb inside a long hall with perfect symmetrical patters forming rhythems”. I speak in metafors, which is important. This is how the Korridor project came up. You inspire yourself to create visions that you can link to the sounds you are going to make or that you know how to make to sound like the vision. It does not work for all music projects but the visual meaning of the name Korridor (Corridor in english) really is inpiering.”

“It was only a question of time untill I would start a deeper techno project. I had already been doing it for many years but without a real goal, but even without a goal you can still create, explore and learn.”

We hear similar sounds coming from a few artists across Sweden. Do we take it that this is was Sweden, and certainly Stockholm is all about? Is this the main sound thats floating around the underground club scene at the moment?

“Techno is on a rising up again, everywhere. I would say deeper music overall has caught the attention of many, this has cultural connections as society changes and new generations enter the market, and it’s not only happening in Sweden it’s happening all over the western society. People are generally interested in deep music and want to know about the labels, artists, the records, the clubs etc. This opens the doors for artists like myself to actually play the deepest and most ghost haunting sounds anywear. If you grow up to it, if its your first club experience, you will never forgest it.

Korridor is also a live artist aswell, what are you using for your sets and whats your process for producing your live elements?

“I use any source that is capable of producing many high quality variations at the same time. Basicly its a laptop, 2x midicontrollers, Let me explain how this livesession that I made for you was done. Basicly it was my friend playing maybe 5 different drums and I was techno jamming on it, building the liveset from nothing. The result was awesome and total trance and totally, Korridor.”
